Kyrö has also done collaborative products with other distilleries. Teeling Distillery aged their Irish whiskey in Kyrö's gin casks (which they use for Kyrö Dark gin) while Kyrö aged some of their gin in Teeling's whiskey casks. Together with the Japanese Kyoto Distillery, Kyrö produced a botanical exchange that celebrated the 100th year of Finnish‐Japanese diplomatic relations. Both distilleries used botanicals from the other to make a special batch of gin. [30] Since 2016, Kyrö has produced a craft long drink together with Finnish brewery Laitilan Wirvoitusjuomatehdas. The cranberry long drink, called Kyrö Cranberry, uses Kyrö Gin as its base. [29] Other Products [ edit ]

To produce whisky you have to age it at least for 3 years in oak casks. Meanwhile gin is a bit more straightforward to produce and it brings some much needed cash flow before the whisky is ready to launch. According to the CEO of Kyrö Distillery Company Miika Lipiäinen the idea always was to produce gin in addition to whisky but the success of their Napue Gin was far beyond anything they could have hoped for. Kyrö is best known for its Kyrö Gin, formerly known as Napue. Gin and tonic made with Napue gin won the Best Gin for the Gin & Tonic category at the International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC) in 2015. [18] [9] Following the award, Napue's production increased from the previously planned 23,000 bottles to 100,000 bottles in 2015. [10] [19]

So, what’s next for the five best friends who founded Kyrö Distillery Company? They certainly aren’t standing still – in fact, this year the first rye whiskey from the distillery will be unveiled. It’s a moment that all five founders have been waiting for excitedly, but won’t mark the end of enthusiastic experimentation that goes on at their once abandoned dairy. Voi sitä hypeä kun etelä-pohjanmaalaisen Kyrö Distilleryn Napue-gin julistettiin pari vuotta sitten kansainvälisellä tasolla parhaaksi giniksi gin toniciin. Vuonna 2015 Napue äänestettiin the International Wine & Spirit Competitionissa (IWSC) parhaaksi giniksi gin toniciin , ja vuonna 2016 palkinto tuli San Francisco World Spirit Competitionin premium-ginien sarjasta. Suomi mainittu – torille! Rukiista huolimatta Napue gin on valmistusmenetelmänsä ansiosta gluteeniton. 😉 Täytä lasi jäillä, mittaa lasiin gin ja kaada päälle tonic-vesi. Viimeistele juoma rosmariininoksalla ja karpaloilla. Nauti!

The five founders of Kyrö Distillery Company – Miika Lipiainen, Mikko Koskinen, Kalle Valkonen, Miko Heinila, and Jouni Ritola – were drinking American rye whiskey together in the sauna, when someone raised this question: Why hadn't anyone made rye whiskey in Finland? After a bit of research, it turns out Napue Gin is a small batch gin from the Finnish Kyro Distillery Company using rye grain as the base spirit. This gin won the inaugural IWSC Gin & Tonic trophy, so fingers crossed it’s good! (Side note: I was telling boy about this gin and pronouncing it in a variety of ways, then it appeared on Sunday Brunch and is apparently pronounced “Nap-we”. So there we go.)

In 2016, Juuri unaged rye whisky won a gold medal in the Whisky category of the International Spirit Awards (IWSC). [25] [26] To avoid any risk of falling out, the Kyrö founders agreed on a basic set of principles to live – and distil – by. Besides the collaborative products, Kyrö makes Pink Gin. The gin gets its flavours from strawberries, lingonberries, and rhubarb and it stands for equality. [31] Hand Sanitizer [ edit ]Kyrö Distillery Company". Werklig. A former dairy factory in Isokyrö is home to the Kyrö Distillery. Isokyrö itself is a mysterious place. Archeologists have found ancient human remains in the local Leväluhta well which turns red every spring. Weird. Undoubtedly, a great gin success story from Finland, Kyrö Distillery only produced 5000 bottles in 2014. Last year their total gins sales topped 350,000 bottles! Keep your eyes out for future projects, this is certainly a distillery to watch. A nice whiff of juniper and fruit on the nose. On the palate, fruit, pine from the juniper and birch followed by citrus notes and a little jam before a punchy peppery finish. Mouthwateringly good. Napue won the inaugural Best G&T gin at the IWSC in 2015 and it’s easy to see why. Great mouth feel, great flavour and finish plus a 46% ABV means it stands up well mixed, but is also delicious over ice. As Miika explains, “Five founders is a lot, so we sat down and thought about the values we wanted to further in the company and in our lives. Did we want to change the world in similar ways? We really did – we saw the world in the same way, and our goals were the same.”They also agreed to approach the world with trust, giving everyone – including each other – the benefit of the doubt. And, of course, they pledged never to take themselves too seriously. But whatever comes next for Kyrö Distillery Company, these friends want to carry on as they began: together. a b "Rye Rye Oy – Taloustiedot". Suomen Asiakastieto Oy (in Finnish).
