Ron Beers: These are the two most popular “modern” translations in the US right now. They are both excellent for reading and study. The NLT would lean more toward a “thought-for-thought” translation philosophy (putting greater emphasis on the intended original meaning of a passage) while the NIV would lean a bit more literal in its translation philosophy (putting slightly more emphasis on translating each word with its original language equivalent). Both translation philosophies have their merits. I’m a member of the Central Bible Translation Committee for the New Living Translation (NLT), so I am of course biased in that direction! Why is it important that the original LASB editors were reassembled with a team of next generation female editors to produce this third edition? The software is pretty good, but it is missing some important features. 1st, there is no way to attach anything in notes, such as of sermon/class handouts, slideshow pictures, or pictures taken with a camera. I have to use Apple's OCR Scan Text for pictures and paste the words into the notes for each sermon/class, but that still means any photos/pictures aren't included and instead I have to make a comment to view photos taken on that day to view pictures I took of handouts or slideshow.
